Let's Talk / Me Kōrero

How would you support a family member, friend, colleague or employee who had experienced sexual violence?
What signs would tell you someone is experiencing family violence?
Who is responsible for stopping family and sexual violence?

Think about the last time you thought about these questions, or had a conversation about family or sexual violence? It’s not something most of us talk about often, but perhaps it should be.

Family and sexual violence is one of the biggest problems facing New Zealand society today, with Aotearoa having the highest rate of family violence in the OECD. We need to talk about it. If we keep looking away, it won’t change.

But how do we start those conversations, and create safe environments for honesty? It’s easy to say that family and sexual violence is someone else’s business. And not wanting to talk about it is understandable. What if you say something wrong, or upset someone?

Let’s Talk/Me Korero is an invitation to be courageous and have the conversation anyway. Because what sustains violence more than anything is isolation and stigma.

At Aviva, we passionately believe that Aotearoa can be violence free. But we can’t do it without you. So, #LetsTalk .
