Let's Talk / Me Kōrero

How do you support a family member, friend, colleague or employee who's experiencing sexual violence?
What are the signs that someone is experiencing family violence?
Who is responsible for stopping family and sexual violence?

When was the last time you thought about these questions or had a conversation about family or sexual violence? It’s not something most of us talk about often, but perhaps it should be.

Family and sexual violence is one of the biggest problems facing New Zealand society today, with Aotearoa having the highest rate of family violence in the OECD. We need to talk about it. If we keep looking away, it won’t change.

But how do you start those conversations, and create safe environments for honesty? It’s easy to say that family and sexual violence are someone else’s business. And not wanting to talk about it is understandable. What if you say something wrong, or upset someone?

Let’s Talk/Me Korero is an invitation to be courageous and have the conversation anyway. Because what sustains violence more than anything is isolation and stigma.

At Aviva, we passionately believe that Aotearoa can be violence-free. But we can’t do it without you. So, #LetsTalk .
