Support from Aviva

Aviva is available 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year. We provide specialist services to support people to live a life free from family and sexual violence, and overcome their enduring harms.

Every year, we supported over 1200 children, young people and adults across Canterbury, and respond to over 4000 phone calls to our emergency line.

 

We support people of any age, gender, ethnicity or sexual orientation who:

  • are experiencing, or have experienced family violence (for support for adults and families,  visit this page; for support for children and youth, visit this page)
  • use (or are at risk of using) violence (ReachOut)
  • have experienced recent or historic sexual assault/rape (through SASSC)
  • are concerned about someone else who may be at risk of violence or using violence (see 'I am a Friend or Family Member')

Specifically we provide:

  • 24-hour phone support and information via 0800 AVIVA NOW (0800 28482 669)
  • individually tailored advice, advocacy and safety planning from a qualified family violence specialist
  • Ministry of Justice approved family violence education programmes
  • ReachOut early intervention for people using, or at risk of using, family violence
  • Sexual Assault Support Service Canterbury (SASSC) in partnership with START offering crisis support for and their whānau following either a recent or historical sexual assault. adults 18 and above
  • support to access safe, temporary accommodation
  • [email protected] home security improvements for those at highest risk of repeat family violence
  • one-on-one Specialist Peer Support
  • Community Development training and social opportunities, developed through a lens of lived experience
  • GoodLoans in partnership with Good Shepherd NZ offering budgeting services and no- and low-interest loans to people on limited incomes
  • advice and information on legal, health and financial issues
  • help applying for a Protection or Parenting Order
  • access to support from other agencies and services
