Vision and Purpose

Our Vision

A society free from the harms of family and sexual violence, where healthy children, families and communities are honoured and supported as the foundations of New Zealand’s future.

Our Purpose

Through strategic and service excellence, our purpose is to support New Zealand's children, families and communities to become their best, free from the harms of family and sexual violence.

Our Principles

Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi

We honour Te Tiriti and Tangata whenua, and are inclusive of Maori and kaupapa Maori practices and processes

Other General Principles

  • To be child and family centred
  • To be approachable and socially inclusive of people of all ages, ethnicities, genders and sexual orientation
  • To be inclusive of and accessible to people regardless of whether they have used and/or experienced violence

Our Beliefs

  •  Overcoming the enduring effects of family and sexual violence is possible for everyone.
  • We believe in everyone’s potential to become a great parent, partner and citizen if offered the right support, at the right time, in the right way.
  • Social injustices, including gender inequalities, are the principle causes of family and sexual violence and compromise the health, dignity, security and potential of all New Zealanders.
  • We must offer support at any point of a person’s journey - from early intervention, through crisis and to wider wellbeing in order to create truly safer relationships.
  • Wherever possible, adults and children should be supported to become safe in their own homes by removing the violence, not the family. This is a more sustainable and fairer response for those who have already experienced trauma.
  • Services should be offered within the context of a family's healthy or potentially healthy relationships, which families should be empowered to strengthen.
  • By supporting children and young people to learn what healthy relationships look and feel like, we can break the cycle of family and sexual violence.

Our Values

  • Relationships
  • Integrity
  • Social Justice
