Co-Locating Social Services for Better Outcomes

March 2016

Aviva and several of Christchurch’s other leading social services have partnered to co-develop a better way to support our most vulnerable children and their families, simply by working together more closely.

Our shared vision is of a family and community wellbeing centre in one shared space. We know that for many people, accessing support is often a daunting and time-consuming prospect. By co-locating we can wrap our combined support around our community’s most vulnerable children and their families and provide a more cohesive and accessible service continuum.

We’ve found the perfect place in Eastgate Shopping Centre, in the heart of the eastern suburbs. This central site provides us over 1,150sqm of empty space to create a purpose built service centre which will be known as The Loft. Eastgate is a public transport hub and close to schools and the Nga Hau E Wha National marae. The Red Cross Community Outreach Team are joining us, and important government services will be invited to hot-desk within the space.

The Loft will also offer our clients the opportunity to access primary health care including doctors, midwives, district nurses and physiotherapy (as well as other services), all of which are also moving into the same site. The Linwood Library and Service Centre has already re-located on the same floor.

Construction in the space began in early January and the projected opening of The Loft is July 2016. It will see Aviva, Family Help Trust, members of He Waka Tapu and New Zealand Red Cross and the integrated family health centre providing their specialist services from adjacent space.
