Volunteer for Aviva

Do you want to support people to live free from violence?

Aviva has an array of one-off volunteering opportunities for events, fundraising and admin support.

Support work is done entirely through our trained clinicians, so we are unable to offer volunteering opportunities for work with clients.

Please follow Aviva’s Facebook page and join our Newsletter Mailing list below to keep up to date on upcoming campaigns like our Annual Street Appeal. For smaller volunteer opportunities like our biannual newsletter mailout, send an expression of interest to [email protected].

Find more information on our various volunteering opportunities below.

Collect for the Annual Street Appeal

We hold our Annual Street Appeal every year in May. You can collect donations for 1-2 hours at your local supermarket or mall. Volunteer individually or gather a group to collect throughout the day. All funds raised will support Aviva's family and sexual violence services.

The 2024 Appeal is scheduled for Friday 17th and Saturday 18th May.

Street Collectors need to be able to:

  • Collect for at least one hour on either a Friday or Saturday;
  • Transport themselves to and from their assigned collection site;
  • Return their collections to Aviva or a designated return site within one week of the Appeal;
  • Answer basic questions on Aviva services (training and information sheets available upon request); and
  • Be friendly and personable while representing Aviva

We have collection sites available in Christchurch, Waimakariri, and Selwyn from 9am-6pm on both days.

Volunteers will be provided with an Aviva vest, bucket and collection materials, and assigned a site based on their time and location preferences.

Follow up on Facebook and subscribe to our mailing list below to receive more information on volunteering for our Appeal. Or contact us at [email protected] for more information or to arrange a larger group collection.

Offer admin support

We have a number of one-off admin tasks that require extra support. If you have a few hours to give here and there, this could be a great option for you.

Possible tasks include:

  • envelope stuffing for our biannual newsletter mailout (typically around April and November)
  • bucket stuffing leading up to our Annual Street Appeal (typically late April/early May)
  • picking up and sorting in-kind donations

If you are interested in offering admin support, contact us at [email protected].

Fundraise as an Aviva Activator

Do you have a great fundraising idea? Does your school or workplace want to do something to give back to the community? Do you have a group a friends that want to raise money but don't know where to start?

Join an Aviva led fundraiser:

  • Lip Sync Battle - Is there a music video you've always wanted to emulate? Are you a fan of Rupaul's Drag Race? Have you been obsessed with Tom Holland's Umbrella lip sync? Get a group of friends or workmates together to put on your own unforgettable lip sync performance at our Lip Sync Battle in October.  Ask your friends and family to donate in support. Maybe convince your work to become a sponsor and be recognised at the event. Put on one of the fundraising ideas below. Lip Sync Battle performers will be asked to raise at minimum $2000 per team and provide an auction item for the night, but don't worry, we'll be there to help you achieve this goal.
  • Aviva Street Appeal - Give 1-2 hours to collect donations at your local mall or supermarket at our Annual Street Appeal in May.

Make your own fundraiser:

You can use Aviva's Aviva Activators website here to create your own donation platform to share with friends and family. All donations raised will go directly to Aviva's family and sexual violence services.

  • A raffle is a quick way to raise up to $500, depending on how many tickets you sell and how much you sell them for. Contact your friends and local businesses to ask for donations of prizes and vouchers. You can buy raffle books in most stationery stores. If you want to do something a little different, you can use our magic movie squares grid, allowing people to ‘buy’ their favourite film – when the grid is filled, photocopy it, cut out the squares and draw.
  • Hold a garage sale, or sell items online and donate the profits to Aviva. You could ask your friends if they have any items to donate to your efforts too. Alternatively, find a local consignment store, that sells good-quality second hand items and splits the profits with you. You can then donate your share of the profits to Aviva.
  • There are a number of places in Christchurch that will run an event for you - you just need to sell tickets. There are also websites where you can download everything you need to run a quiz or bingo night.
  • You can find more information on our Tips for Fundraising page of our Aviva Activators website.
