Sexual Assault Support Service Canterbury (SASSC) Clinician

Aviva is a not-for-profit agency dedicated to supporting New Zealand families to become their best, free from violence. As New Zealand's first refuge, we provided a range of specialist family violence services to women and children for 40 years. Today, our work is founded on the belief that the safest place for all New Zealanders should be our homes and that everyone has the potential to overcome violence and its enduring effects if offered the right support, at the right time, in the right way. To achieve this, we now offer a range of integrated specialist family and sexual violence support services for the whole family - children, young people, women and men - and are seeking passionate and skilled people to join our team.

Based at The Loft, due to expansion within this service we require 2 full time (40 hours) fixed term (30 June 2020) positions available in what is a growing team of professional practitioners to support young people and adults who have experienced sexual violence harm.

The Sexual Assault Support Service Canterbury (SASSC) is a 24/7 service that is also supported by a team of volunteers, SASSC Administrator and a Co-ordinator.

The role is responsible for providing a professional, timely and safe crisis intervention and navigation service, including social work support, to young people (age 17 and over) and adults with either recent and/or historical experience of sexual violence.

Bringing a strong commitment to Aviva's partnership with START, and a strengths-based approach, the successful applicant will:

  • Be passionately committed to delivering excellent specialist services and overcoming the social inequalities associated with family and sexual violence
  • Be a member, or be working towards membership, of a relevant professional body
  • Have a relevant tertiary social work or similar qualification
  • Ideally have experience of working with adults, children and young people affected by sexual violence
  • Have excellent interpersonal and record keeping skills
  • Hold a current unrestricted driver's license

With our partners, Aviva co-founded and operates from The Loft in Eastgate Shopping Centre, where our SASSC service is based. The Loft brings together a range of Non-Government Organisations, primary healthcare providers and humanitarian agencies to create a 'child, family and community wellbeing centre' in eastern Christchurch. The Loft's partners' shared aim is to improve outcomes for individuals, families and communities by co-creating a co-located response model that simplifies client access through a range of integrated service pathways. The creation of a whole of person, whole of family/whanau approach to wellbeing, delivered from one shared space, has never been achieved before in Australasia, and offers a unique service proposition for Canterbury communities. The Loft offers a unique contemporary working environment, designed to support clients and staff. There is access to Eastgate's staff car parking, banking, retail and service outlets and Linwood Community Library and Service Centre.

All job offers are subject to a clean Police check. Full training and induction will be provided.

If you have a desire to make a positive contribution to our organisation and have knowledge of the effects of sexual violence then we would like to hear from you.
